2011/365/053: Found Time

Last night, Amy and I, along with the kids, talked about “found time” and how great it is to have snow days, especially when they come at the end of another vacation and rather unexpectedly. The house was nearly unanimous: while most of us wanted the day off, one unnamed teenager reasonably argued that she didn’t want to stay longer than necessary in June.

We had no idea what would happen this morning; I had predicted that Baltimore County would be closed, but I wasn’t so sure about Howard County. There was little drama this morning, though: BaltCo announced they were closing at 4:45 a.m., while HoCo went public with their closing decision at 4:50 a.m.

Sorry, unnamed teenager. If it helps, I think this will be the last snow day for the year. 🙂

So then: what to do with this “found time”?

Well, for starters, I’m writing today’s post and most likely publishing it by 6 a.m. Then, I’ll get caught up with my Towson U emails, contact my Wingspan eds regarding the revised deadline structure for their paper, write 3 pages in my own daybook, then make another cup of coffee and check the time–probably still before 7 a.m.

Glorious, Glorious day off!

Then it’s family time, snow time, Lego time, guitar and music time, and more writing/editing time. All of it–cherished for the chance that would have never been possible if schools were not closed.

It doesn’t matter what you do with the time–just enjoy and cherish it. We always wish for “just a little more time” to do this or that….Thousands of us waking up this morning in the Central Maryland region have had our wishes granted. Let’s go into the day with few expectations and enjoy the time we’ve suddenly found!
